Mountain Top Camping at Fernie Alpine Resort
Imagine a campsite that doesn't just offer a five-star experience but immerses you in five unforgettable moments where you're the star of your own adventure. Fernie Alpine Resort delivered just that for our small group of three—Cory, Cennia, and myself. We arrived at the base of the resort on a hot, dry Saturday afternoon, the area buzzing with people eager to take advantage of the resort's summer activities like biking, hiking, and sightseeing. But our goal was even more exhilarating: a night of camping atop the world.
We were warmly greeted by the resort staff who would guide us through this incredible journey—Nels, Dini, and Kelly. Dini quickly checked us in and handed us our lift tickets, while Nels provided an overview of what to expect. Kelly and the team then helped unload our gear, which would make its way up the mountain by road, while we were about to embark on an unforgettable ride up the Timber Express chairlift.

After soaking in the scenery, we walked a short distance to our campsite, a secluded spot nestled between two towering mountain rock pinnacles—Mammoth Peak and Elephant Head. Mammoth Peak even had a small patch of snow clinging to its shaded side. We quickly set up our tent, with everyone pitching in: Dini handled the tent rods, Kelly orchestrated the assembly, and Nels distributed the tent pegs. Within 15 minutes, our campsite was ready—a perfect spot to spend the night under a full Thunder Moon.
The July full moon is also known as the "Thunder Moon" due to the frequent thunderstorms that occur in North America during this time. The weather was hot and dry for this trip.

The next morning, I woke early to catch the sunrise from the deck of Lost Boys Café. The tranquil morning air, the breathtaking view, and the peaceful silence made for a perfect start to the day. After a hearty breakfast, we packed up our gear and took the chairlift back down the mountain.
This mountaintop camping trip was more than just a getaway—it was an adventure that captivated me in every way. From the thrill of the chairlift ride to the incredible views, the fascinating history, the joyous camaraderie, and the majestic Thunder Moon, every moment was unforgettable. The camping experience at Fernie Alpine Resort wasn't just a trip; it was a journey that left a lasting impression, much like the awe-inspiring landscape itself.
