The Forgotten Tree

Back when I lived in Inglewood, many years ago, a friend gave me a little tree as a gift. It came in one of those plastic planting bags—just a few feet tall, barely more than a twig. She smiled and said, “Plant it in your backyard. One day, it might give you some shade.”

So, I did. Dug a quick hole, dropped it in, gave it some water, and figured, “Well, that’s that.” I wasn’t much of a gardener. Every spring, I’d remember to water it once or twice, but honestly, I didn’t pay it much attention. Life got busy. The tree? It was just... there.

Then, one warm afternoon, years later, I grabbed a lawn chair, looking for a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the day. I set the chair down near where I had planting that little sapling and leaned back. That’s when I noticed something.

And it hit me: Life’s full of things like that. We plant little seeds—relationships, ideas, even simple acts of kindness—and sometimes forget about them. But with just a little care, they can grow into something bigger than we ever expected.

The Moral? Sometimes, the quietest growth happens when you’re not even paying attention.
